It might get loud for a minute guys…
While moving I stumbled upon a recording of The Unincoporated’s first real show. At the sweet corn festival on August 8th 2015. It was cool on two levels. One, to hear how far I’ve come in seven years. And two, to hear that it wasn’t half bad. I thought about all the shows I’ve played since, in that band, solo, and in other projects (around 300). I thought about the places I’ve been and the people I’ve met. I couldn’t help but smile, feeling like if nothing else, I’ve accomplished the simple task that was on my mind that day; booking another show.
This Saturday The Unincoporated is headlining the beer tent at that same summer carnival (a small but sentimental accomplishment). The Unincorporated has a new album tracked, I have sessions booked for a new solo record, and a solid schedule of gigs. I don’t really believe in “full circle” moments, however this is certainly the completion of a lap, or hopefully a revolution of a spiral that reaches ever outward. One of my favorite sayings is something like “water doesn’t cut through stone with brute strength, but with persistence.” Since that day I don’t think I’ve ever stopped writing, recording, booking. They’ve become compulsions, like bodily functions. This is what I do.
I started off that gig seven years ago by saying “It might get loud here for a minute guys” and it did, and it still does. and I don’t think its going to get quiet anytime soon.
